International Dog Day

International Dog Day is celebrated every year on 26 August. The day is all about paying tribute to these incredible animals who work selflessly to bring comfort, keep us safe, and save lives. Every day, these animals put their lives on the line. There are dogs that protect our safety and freedom by detecting drugs and bombs, as well as those that pull victims from wreckages and tragic situations.  Colleen Paige is also the founder of many such days like National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day, National Cat Day, and National Wildlife Day.

International Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure. Its aim is to help galvanise the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues. Dogs are such wonderful companions capable of bringing so much joy in your life. Adopting a dog could be the best thing, in fact. That being a dog parent would be the most fulfilling and gratifying experience, there is no doubt about that. There have been plenty of scientific data that reveal why dogs are the best pets. So, for those who are wondering whether it would be a good idea to get a dog; or caught between dog vs cat dilemma, look no further.

Why International Dog Day was created

  • The aim of International Dog Day is to bring awareness to the condition of animals as well as to encourage adoption. And, of course, to celebrate all dogs everywhere. This day is meant to:

  • acknowledge dogs that need to be rescued

  • recognize dogs that bring us comfort, protect us, and save lives

  • discourage people from buying dogs from pet stores that support unethical backyard breeders and puppy mills

  • encourage the adoption of dogs in need from local shelters or rescue centers

  • rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse

How to Celebrate?

  • Adopt a dog and give it a loving home.

  • If you have a dog, treat them with their favorite treats.

  • If you are unable to have a dog in your family, celebrate the day by donating your time and money to the local animal and dog shelter.

You can also celebrate Dog Day by making a donation to an animal charity of your choice. You will probably find that you have a local dog charity or shelter in your local area. All you need to do is a quick search online, and you will discover more about the amazing charities out there that are doing incredible work.

Reasons to adopt a dog

When you wake up sad and dull, dogs are there to give your boring day a kick start with their positive energy and love. They are always there to make you smile, to destroy your sorrows and bring happiness and zeal in your life. The only person who is excited and happy to see you return home is your dog. His cuddling, scratching and love makes you feel elated and at peace and tells you that you are back home. When God created dogs, he only thought of love and emotions and that’s the reason they make true friends because they are the epitome of unmatched love and loyalty.

Happy International Dog Day!
